On Wednesday, the 89-year-old Oscar-winning actress held court on the patio of Kristy's Malibu restaurant near Zuma Beach, California.

Her animated laugh could be heard echoing across the courtyard as her female assistant and two male friends entertained her.

She could be seen throwing her head back and relishing the fun conversation.

'I had come from the beach to get something to eat,' Frenchy later told DailyMail.com in her thick French accent. 

'I couldn't believe it was her! I waited until they were done and just went up and said I'm such a fan and could I have a photo? Shirley looked me up and down and told me ''I love your pink [outfit]!'' So I told her, I love yours too!' and pointed to her pink pants and sneakers.'

The Postcards From The Edge and Terms Of Endearment star wore a cozy striped orange, brown and red sweater with a red fleece over it, and carried her iPhone in a small Coach canvas pouch.
